REPLACING MISMATCHED WINDOWS WITH GEORGIAN SASHES
Two windows at this charming country cottage had been overlooked when the house was last repainted and renovated. These windows needed complete replacement to match the existing Georgian-style windows throughout the property and complete the cottage’s authentic period appearance.
The new windows needed to blend seamlessly with the established Georgian windows whilst incorporating modern performance standards for energy efficiency and weather protection.
- Traditional Georgian sash window design
- Conservation window system for heritage authenticity
- Georgian-style double glazing with authentic glazing bars
- Traditional brass ironmongery and fittings
- Full draught-sealing system
OUR APPROACH
We used our conservation window system to create traditional opening sash windows in the authentic Georgian style. Every detail was carefully crafted to ensure the replacement windows would be indistinguishable from the existing period windows.
The frames were precision-machined, fitted together and spray-finished for a flawless surface. The sashes were then machined and assembled using traditional joinery methods before receiving the same high-quality spray finish.
We fitted Georgian double glazed units with 4/16/4 specification – toughened glass with K glass coating, warm edge spacer bars and argon filling for superior thermal performance. The glazing beads and Georgian bars were carefully fitted to maintain the authentic period appearance.
The windows were finished in a custom white to match the property’s existing colour scheme. Full draught stripping was installed throughout, and the sashes were hung on traditional 75mm brass hinges with bronze washers for smooth operation and longevity.
Authentic brass window stays and fasteners completed the traditional ironmongery package. When closed, the sashes fit snugly against the draught strip, forming a perfect seal for excellent weather protection and energy efficiency.
The completed windows were installed alongside the existing Georgian windows and blended in perfectly. The cottage now has a consistent, authentic Georgian appearance throughout, with the replacement windows indistinguishable from the original period features.
The combination of traditional craftsmanship, authentic materials and modern glazing technology delivers windows that maintain the property’s heritage character whilst providing contemporary performance standards for warmth, security and weather resistance.
