We believe in the development of the next generation of talent, so it is with great pride that we can share that one of our Joinery Apprentices, Henry Duck, was nominated by his tutor and recently competed in the SkillBuild regional event for joinery.
SkillBuild is delivered by CITB and is the largest multi-trade competition in the UK for construction trainees and apprentices.
Being nominated in itself is a testament to Henry’s abilities, but he only went and won it! 🏆 Henry is now one of only eight finalists who will compete for the national title in Milton Keynes in November.
Neil Frow, Henry’s tutor at North Lindsay College, cannot praise Henry enough.
“Henry is a true star and has the abilities of someone with far more age and experience.
“Not only does Henry have the skills, but he is also a fantastic problem solver and can apply techniques he has used on other projects to solve new challenges.
“He is a real lateral thinker, and in architectural joinery, that is something that can’t really be taught.”
Henry came to Pelham Joinery after school and has completed the first year of his two-year apprenticeship with us. Joinery is something Henry has always been interested in.
He explained, “I think it comes from spending time with my Grandad in his workshop as a kid. He was not a joiner, but he enjoyed making things, and I am the same.
Now I have my own workshop at home and love spending time creating one-off pieces of furniture for friends and family.”
Henry is a real talent to watch and already an asset to our team. Check out the hand-carving he has done on this commemorative bench he made for the retirement gift for Jill, who has worked at Brocklesby Estate for 30 years.
