GOTHIC WINDOWS IN GRADE II LISTED BUILDING.

Pillar Lodge is a Grade II listed building with a mixture of styles of windows, including highly distinctive gothic-style windows. When the original windows needed replacing, we were able to marry our traditional joinery skills with some modern touches and create new windows of the same Gothic style.

With such an unusual shape, and due to the age of the building, we started by templating the window to the brickwork opening to ensure we got a perfect fit for the new window.

Once templated, we took top-grade softwood timber and cut it to the complex curved shape and added a hardwood cill. The pieces were joined together and then machined to the original frame design. As we put the frame together, we were able to make subtle improvements to the original frame design by including concealed, modern weathering details and draught strips. Alongside the Argon-filled double-glazed units and warm edge bar, this gave the windows a higher energy-rated value, ensuring they were warm and draught-free.

The frames and accompanying sashes were then finished in Teknos paint in our spray workshop, glazed and installed on-site. The new window was in perfect keeping with the other original windows and would give this beautiful building many more years of life.
