REPLACING 1970s WINDOWS IN RURAL FARMHOUSE.
Swallow Wold is an imposing old farmhouse with a mixture of window styles that had been updated during its life, including mock sliding sashes and 1970s large glass frames. We assessed each of the windows to determine which could be repaired and which were too far gone and needed to be replaced.
Some of the mock sash windows could be saved, so we repaired them to a very high standard and new sashes were made with top-grade timber where required. The 1970s-style frames were not in keeping with the style of the property, so we removed these and made new Georgian-style windows with machined Sapele hardwood sills.
The frames and sashes were all painted with Dulux WeatherShield paint, glazed using 20mm double-glazed argon-filled units and the sashes hung with brass window furniture.
Once installed, the new windows transformed the house, restoring it to its former glory and stature.
