ENHANCING A TRADITIONAL VILLAGE PUB WITH BESPOKE EXTERIOR PLANTERS
Located in the heart of Great Limber village, The New Inn stands as a cherished traditional pub serving the local community. When the existing planters had reached the end of their serviceable life, the pub owners approached us to create replacement planters that would not only withstand the elements but also complement the building’s established character and traditional charm.
THE CHALLENGE
The original planters had deteriorated beyond repair, leaving the pub’s exterior lacking in the decorative elements that enhance its welcoming village pub atmosphere. The replacement planters needed to meet several key requirements: exceptional weather resistance to cope with being outside all year round, a design that harmonised with the pub’s existing architectural features, and longevity to provide decades of service without requiring frequent maintenance or replacement.
OUR SOLUTION
We designed and crafted bespoke decorative planters using premium materials specifically chosen for their durability and weather resistance. The planters were constructed from Accoya timber with Tricoya panels – engineered timber that has been acetylated to provide exceptional dimensional stability and resistance to rot and insect attack. This advanced timber treatment process ensures the planters will maintain their structural integrity and appearance for approximately 25 years.
The construction process involved careful attention to both form and function. Each planter was precision-crafted to match the pub’s existing character, with design details that complement rather than compete with the building’s traditional features. To ensure maximum weather protection, we applied Stone V from The Paint & Paper Library in Architect’s matt finish – a premium exterior paint specifically formulated for outdoor applications. Additionally, the interior surfaces received an extra waterproof coating to provide comprehensive protection against moisture ingress.
THE TRANSFORMATION
The completed planters have transformed the exterior appearance of The New Inn, creating an enhanced sense of welcome and traditional charm that befits this village landmark. The custom design ensures they integrate seamlessly with the pub’s existing aesthetic, while the premium materials and finishes guarantee they will continue to enhance the property’s appearance for decades to come.
The planters now take pride of place outside The New Inn, providing an attractive framework for seasonal planting displays that will evolve throughout the year while maintaining their structural and visual integrity regardless of weather conditions.
LOOKING AHEAD
This planter project represents the first phase of our ongoing collaboration with The New Inn. As part of a comprehensive external renovation programme, we will continue to work with the pub owners to enhance and preserve this important village establishment, ensuring it remains a welcoming focal point for the North Thoresby community for years to come.
The success of this initial phase demonstrates our commitment to understanding each client’s unique requirements and delivering bespoke solutions that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern materials technology. Through careful design, premium materials selection, and expert craftsmanship, we have created planters that will serve The New Inn faithfully while maintaining the character and charm that makes this village pub so special.
