RENOVATING WINDOWS TO OUR OWN HISTORIC WORKS YARD.
The Works Yard has been an active works area for the Brocklesby estate for 130 years and consists of a number of workshop and storage buildings. We undertook a full revamp of all windows throughout the yard’s buildings.
The yard had a number of different window styles and shapes, including York slide, traditional casement sash, box frame and sliding sash windows. This was a test for our joiners, who had to manage many different styles and moulds across the twenty-plus windows that needed repairing or replacing.
We assessed each window, stripped them back and then repaired them using Sapele sustainable hardwood, including making various patterned front linings and several different styles of new sashes.
Each window was rebuilt to the original style, with the original glass used where possible. Once the windows were repaired, our painting team took over to transform the look of the yard. All windows were rubbed down and filled, and several coats of Weathershield paint were received.
This traditional heritage works yard has been transformed from a tired and somewhat shabby place to a sharp, fresh and crisp working environment. It was an extensive refurbishment project for our team, and its success is a testament to the skills and resources Pelham Joinery can bring to a project to deliver to the very highest standards.
